In the week of the release of their third studio album ‘Serotonin‘, London five-piece Mystery Jets have been discussing their confidence in the new material, saying they believe the new record is their best to date.

Speaking to Clash magazine, guitarist Will Rees said the time spent by the band crafting their new songs has led to a more consistent record than their previous two. “It’s really good. I think we feel like we’ve made our best record,” he enthused. “I think on the second and third album we’ve put so much effort into crafting and learning how to write songs. In quite a traditional way.”

Mystery Jets released their debut album ‘Making Dens‘ in 2006 to widespread acclaim, with critics declaring it one of the strongest debuts of the year, while one labelled it a ‘fantastic, passionate and wonderfully eccentric debut album’. They issued the follow-up, ‘Twenty One‘ in 2008, which featured a cameo from songwriter Laura Marling on the excellent ‘Young Love‘.

Later, bass player Kai Fish echoed Rees’ comments, and revealed he feels the band are getting stronger with each release: “If you blow your load on the first album and there’s nothing else to back that up, it’s not that interesting. If you find your feet over the course of three or four albums, to be a great band, I think you’ve got to do that.”
