Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has paid tribute to his former bandmate Stuart Cable, who passed away suddenly yesterday morning.

Speaking in today’s Telegraph newspaper, Jones revealed he had been contact with Cable last week to send him his birthday wishes, and insisted any disagreements between the pair which were said to have played a part in Cable leaving the Welsh band in 2003 were quickly resolved.

“I sent him a text last week to say happy birthday and he replied: ‘I never thought I’d make it to 40’,” he told the paper. “I texted him back and I said: ‘You will live to be 100 mate.’ I think that was quite strange really. Between me and Stuart, all our disagreements were solved within one year. We were still good friends and he wished me good luck for our gig in Cardiff on Saturday. I’m in total shock. I was going to see Stuart today for a pint and wish him happy birthday as well.”

South Wales Police have confirmed a post-mortem has been undertaken, but that it may take up to six weeks to determine the cause of Stuart Cable’s death while they await the results of toxicology tests.
