Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has teamed up with members of the Sex Pistols and The Who for a special one-off covers gig at the upcoming 1234 festival in London on July 24th.

Gillespie will play with Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and The Who’s Zak Starkey for the show which will include covers of tracks by the likes of The Troggs and MC5. Gillespie will also be joined by his Primal Scream bandmates Andrew Innes and Barrie Cadogan. The new side-project will be called Silver Machine and speaking about his new band, Gillespie has simply said: “We’re great and we can’t wait.”

In addition, 1234 Festival director Sean McLusky discussed his own role in initiating the new band: “We did a show at the Whitechapel Gallery with S.C.U.M and a bunch of other artists,” he said. “Bobbie was playing and rocked ‘Wild Thing’ by The Troggs with Jamie Hince from The Kills, so I asked him if he would do more of the same at the festival, so now we have The Silver Machine.”

As well as his show with The Silver Machine, GIllespie is set to play Primal Scream’s seminal 1991 debut release ‘Screamdelica‘ in it’s entirety at London’s Olympia venue in November.
