U2 Cancel Glastonbury Appearance

U2 have been forced to cancel their scheduled headline appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival, just a month before the annual event is due to begin.

U2 were forced to pull out following the emergency spinal surgery their frontman Bono received after suffering an injury while preparing for their upcoming tour dates, after which their manager Paul McGuinness said: “We will make plans to reinstate the dates as soon as possible.”

However, it has been confirmed today that Bono will not recover fully in time for the festival, with him telling fans of his disappointment via a statement on Glastonbury’s official website. “I’m heartbroken,” he revealed. “We really wanted to be there to do something really special – we even wrote a song especially for the festival.”

Organiser Michael Eavis also gave his reaction to the news. “It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed,” he said. “Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them. At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2’s Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.”

In addition, U2 have also cancelled their planned tour of the US and Canada.
