Review: Roses Kings Castles – ‘One Born Every Minute’

One Born Every Minute‘ is the brand new single from Roses Kings Castles, and with it’s simplistic but yet endearing approach, you have to wonder what more is to come from the Adam Ficek project. For those of you that don’t know, Adam Ficek is, or was, whatever the case may be, the drummer for Babyshambles. In his downtime from the band, Adam put together this wonderful side project that let him create whimsical and stunning pop music.

Roses Kings Castles (Adam Ficek)

With RKC’s debut album released in September 2008, and a brilliant EP called ‘Apple and Engines‘ out last year, Adam has creatively not stopped since. With his loyal fan base and respective sales, it has helped Adam spend more time in the studio and put together his new album ‘Surburban Time Bombs‘, which will be released later in the year. ‘One Born Every Minute’ is the first single off that album and from the off you get a sense of a much more confident artist.

All the elements are there for a classic and wonderful single. Clocking in at just over two minutes, it’s a simple but yet effective pop song with a brilliant sing-along chorus. It is quintessentially English and unashamedly so. With a tremolo guitar hook and brush on snare sound throughout,  it gives it that classic 60’s scouse tone that bands like The La’s were influenced by. You often wonder about drummers in bands, but Adam Ficek is certainly a cut above the rest. With pop sensibilities and with a vision of endearment and wholesomeness, you can’t help but be drawn to the song’s beauty. If you get the single, you are also treated to the understated ‘Sit Down’, which says it is a cassette demo, but don’t let that deter you. Another touching song and lyrically it’s almost like a call to arms. So embrace, enjoy and allow yourself to be taking in by RKC’s charm, as it will be something you won’t regret.

Now for the important bit, you can order the song from the RKC website http://roseskingscastles.360degreemusic.com/ and it is available via iTunes http://itunes.apple.com too!
