Alex Kapranos, frontman of Glasgow’s Franz Ferdinand, has revealed he intends to keep the make-up of their new album under wraps, saying he believes he spoilt the last record due to offering too much information on their plans prior to it’s release.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, Kapranos said the band are making progress on the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand‘, but wouldn’t elaborate on it’s direction any further: “There’s a couple of songs we’re working on but we’re still writing,” he said. “It’s too early to say what it’s about and also, with our last record, I shot my mouth off a little bit too much and said too much about it before it came out, so I’m keeping my mouth closed this time and not spoiling the surprise, I think that spoils it, so it’s best to stay quiet.”

Kapranos also told BANG Showbiz that he has been mulling over a collaboration with fellow Scottish songwriter Edwyn Collins: “I went round to Edwyn Collins’ place and he’s working on a record, it’s very cool. We haven’t decided if we’ll record with him or not yet, but wait and see.”

The band have been working on new material since the beginning of the year and no planned release date for the new record has yet been revealed.
