Brandon Flowers ‘Didn’t Want To Go Solo’

Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has revealed he would have preferred for his upcoming debut solo record ‘Flamingo‘ to have been a fully fledged Killers album.

Speaking in this week’s edition of the NME, Flowers said some of the tracks set for inclusion on his solo album were originally intended for his band, and that he ‘didn’t want to go solo’: “To be honest, I personally would prefer it if this was a Killers record,” he told the magazine. “Some of the songs were originally destined to be Killers songs, but it is what it is. I’m overflowing with songs right now. It’s something that has happened very quickly and very recently. That, combined with the other guys in the band wanting to take a long break, is what convinced me to do this album. I can’t really blame the other guys but I’ve got this fire burning. I’m ready to go.”

Flowers also described the sound of his solo material as being very different from the traditional Killers make-up which he has played a large part in: “I was conscious of trying not to do something that was ‘too Killers.’ We’re a band of four parts, so I found it was pretty much impossible for me to sound too much like The Killers on my own. There are definitely things on there I haven’t tried before – a gospel song, for example. I really think this album is going to be its own thing.”

Brandon Flowers has also outlined more details of ‘Flamingo‘, revealing that the album has been produced by his Killer cohort Stuart Price as well Daniel Lanoid and Brendan O’Brien. He also confirmed two tracks to be featured on the LP, ‘Hard Enough‘ and ‘Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas‘, which will include vocals from Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis.

Flamingo‘ is set for release in the autumn.
