More musicians and music industry executives were forced to cancel trips to the US (mainly for the Coachella festival) after the volcanic ash cloud engulfing parts of Europe showed no signs of dispersing. BPI’s Sync Mission, a 3 day event for music business delegates, which is due to start on Tuesday in Los Angeles, has also been postponed until further notice.

Coachella organisers tweeted their frustrations over the weekend as more UK acts confirmed their cancellations for this year’s legendary indie festival held in California.

UK bands Bad Lieutenant, The Cribs, Talvin Singh, Delphic and Gary Numan as well as Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit were not able to attend the festival over the weekend. Chicago based brass band Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, who were touring in Europe were also stranded without a flight to the west coast.

“I can’t tell you how disappointed we all are,” Gary Numan tweeted on Saturday and Mika, who had to postpone his Friday gig in Lisbon, Portugal while stranded in Paris, wrote: “Volcano freak out, This is bad.”

Whitney Houston, who just took a lashing in the press for a reportedly poor live performance last week, was forced to board a ferry for her trip across the Irish Sea to perform in Dublin as no flights were available for the Diva. Los Campesinos meanwhile, were among other big indie performers who had to cancel their weekend gigs in the States.

Just in: Crystal Castles, Karen Elson and The Features have all updated their schedules for this week and have cancelled their shows in the UK , new dates tba.
