The Libertines Reunite For ‘Secret Rehearsal’?

the-libertinesAll four original members of The Libertines were spotted celebrating fresh rehearsals, reports The Sun today.

According to the paper, a ‘source’ has told them the band, consisting of Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell, reunited ahead of a planned festival comeback this year.

The ‘source’ is quoted as saying: “If it works out they will consider writing new material. The four of them only agreed to it after a secret rehearsal to see if it still worked. Carl is nervous about the reunion because he is worried Pete could let him down again. But Pete’s promised he will give his all for the gigs.”

Since splitting in 2004, The Libertines have been the subject of constant reunion rumours. Despite consistently ruling out a complete return, Carl Barat has joined Pete Doherty on stage numerous times over the past few years, and he recently hinted he was warming to the idea of a return with The Libertines when he told The Evening Standard: “…it’s hard to plan The Libertines until next Tuesday. But 2011 is where there’s room for that to happen. So if everything’s all right, then, yeah, it would be glorious to get on the old jacket and venture forth, into the known.”

The Libertines have been strongly rumoured to be included on this year’s Reading/Leeds Festival line-up.
