Glam and punk rock legends Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls and Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys have joined forces to create a new punk rock super-group–the Batusis! And with the help of Thommy Price and Enzo Penizzotto–the driving rhythm section behind Joan Jett and the Blackhearts–they’ve cooked up a cooler-than-cool-sounding new self-titled EP that will have its worldwide release on May 4, 2010 on Smog Veil Records.
The Batusis will be making their live debut at America’s premiere music gathering, SXSW, in Austin, Texas on Thursday, March 18. Backing up Sylvain and Cheetah in Austin will be former Cult drummer Lez Warner and Alice Cooper bass man Chuck Garric. Popular southern California bands Miss Derringer and the BellRays will also be on the bill at both the Batusis’ SXSW shows. The Batusis will be following up their SXSW performances with a UK Tour scheduled for May 3-13 that will coincide with the 4-song EP’s official release on May 4.
Cheetah and Sylvain are busily plotting their next move after that, but it’s safe to say that you’ll be seeing and hearing plenty more from the Batusis in the coming year. After all, it’s hard to keep a couple of punk rock pioneers down!
