John Lennon’s native city Liverpool is to mark what would have been the legendary songwriter’s 70th birthday with a two month festival from October 9th.

The celebrations will involve music, art and poetry across the city, and Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, councillor Mike Storey, told the BBC he wanted to honour John’s many achievements during his eventful life: “John Lennon is one of the most iconic figures of the 20th Century and a Liverpool lad who became known in every corner of the globe,” he said. “His enduring message of peace is as important now as ever and continues to be an inspiration to many. The John Lennon Tribute Season will allow us to remember him as a man, celebrate his music, and his overall contribution to our city.”

The festival will run until December 9th – the day after the 30th anniversary of John’s untimely death.
