James Murphy: ‘New LCD Soundsystem LP Will Be Our Last’

Producer and musician James Murphy has said he believes the upcoming LCD Soundsystem album will be their final release.

Murphy, who has made similar claims during the build-up to previous records, told Rolling Stone the new record marks the right place for the band to end. “I feel like this should be the last record because a lot of people make three good records and then they don’t make good records anymore,” he said. “And if we get any bigger than we are, I would lose some interest. I feel like I made a band that was about how I felt about music, as an argument, and I feel like I’ve kind of explained myself and it’s time to do something else.”

LCD Soundsystem was initiated by Murphy in 2002 and has an eclectic sound ranging from dance to punk rock, the group also currently consists of Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, Al Doyle and Phil Skarich. They have released two critically acclaimed albums to date – ‘LCD Soundsystem‘ in 2005, which was nominated for the 2006 Grammy Awards, and 2007’s ‘Sound Of Silver‘, which was also nominated for a Grammy.

The new record, which is yet to have a confirmed title, is set for release in May.
