Interview: VV Brown – Pop’s Renaissance Woman

vv-brown_live4ever

Our coverage from this year’s SXSW Festival continues with highly-rated British singer and producer VV Brown. VV represents the variety of SXSW which is often over-looked, and her experimental style of pop is a welcome change of styles from the more traditional rock bands which can dominate the festival.

VV Brown released her debut album ‘Travelling Like The Light‘ in 2009, which hit the UK top 40 in the July of that year. She is a prolific songwriter and has written for many other artists under her pseudonym ‘geeki’ and has also worked with Damon Albarn on his Africa Exprez project in Lagos.

VV Brown’s talents are by no means confined to the stage and she is an artist with many strings to her bow. Amongst other things, she landed a spot on the catwalk for Vogue after a chance meeting with an agent on a flight to the US, has a graphic novel in the works, and if that wasn’t enough she also runs her very own online vintage store.

Despite her many talents, it’s her unique live shows that the fans at SXSW had come to see. Her performances have brought her legions of admirers, and she has carved out a reputation as a dynamic and charismatic frontwoman. By the end of the week, VV had become one of the most in-demand acts at this year’s festival, which really is no surprise – how can you not be intrigued by a songwriter who describes her sound as ‘musical mashed potatoes’?

Join us as we sit down with the beautiful VV and find out why she loves Austin and SXSW, how her album climbed to #1 in France, who her musical idols are, and why VV truly is a ‘Renaissance woman’. Click the play button to listen to our interview:
