The Specials have announced two dates in the US in April – their first US gigs since 1980.

The band, who were at the forefront of the British New Wave/Ska scene in the the early Eighties, are set to appear at the legendary Coachella festival on April 16th, before moving on to New York for a show at the city’s Terminal 5 venue on April 21st, reports Brooklyn Vegan.

The Specials announced their decision to reform in the Autumn of 2008 to mark their 30th anniversary. However, chief songwriter and keyboard player Jerry Dammers has not taken part in the reunion gigs. The group will celebrate the tour with a ’30th Anniversary Tour’ DVD, released on March 1st. The DVD was recorded at the band’s Wolverhampton Civic Hall show on November 10 2009.

Tickets for the band’s New York date will go on sale on January 29th.
