Elwes, who worked with Zemeckis on “A Christmas Carol” and is in the upcoming “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn,” will play George Harrison. Campbell will be Ringo Starr. His credits include “Epic Movie” and “Date Movie,” and he will be seen on NBC’s miniseries “Day One.”

The 1968 animated film follows the Beatles on their adventures to Pepperland on board their yellow submarine, accompanied by a soldier called Old Fred.

This time around director Zemickis will be taking advantage of the newest 3D performance capture technology to make his screenplay come alive.

For the motion-capture sequences The Beatles tribute band Fab 4 will be called in for action. They won’t actually be performing the 16 songs used in the movie as the makers have the license to use the original Beatles music.
