Scott Kannberg, guitarist of recently reformed 90s rock band Pavement, has said he expects the group to write new material provided their upcoming tour goes smoothly.
Speaking to The Age Kannberg, better known as ‘Spiral Stairs’, said: “If it’s enjoyable for us, I think it is inevitable that we’ll make some more music. I hope so because I think it will be fun. If I was a fan of the band I’d want to hear some new music, but we’re just going to see how it goes.”
Kannberg went on to discuss their new tour, which begins in Australia early next year and hits the UK in May 2010: “We haven’t started rehearsing yet, so I think once we start doing it, some songs will sound better than others. We’re doing some pretty fun shows though. It’s not going to be like a regular tour.”
Pavement were formed in California in 1989 and released five studio albums, all on the independent Matador label. Despite only enjoying limited commercial success, they established themselves as one of the most influential bands of the 90s and garnered a dedicated following. After releasing their final album to date, ‘Terror Twilight‘ in 1999, they played their final gig in London in the November of that year before confirming their split shortly after. They confirmed the details of their reunion tour in September this year.
