Live4ever Presents… Is Tropical & Moms House Dads House

It’s been a while since the last Live4ever Presents… but trust me, it was worth the wait. I have two very interesting bands, both from London and both paving the way for interesting and complex pop music. First up is a band who are ‘Tropical, Tropical, Tropical!’ It’s only London’s own ‘Is Tropical’

Effortlessly creating wonky pop genius, Is Tropical has a sound that Lou Reed would be proud of. Hints of New York hipster cool mixed with noisy London art/punk sensibilities. You get a feel of a modern day Velvet Underground if they were brought up on DFA/LCD Soundsystem records. Take a listen to ‘Seasick Mutiny’ with its blippy urgency and dirty scuzzy bass lines that would stain the soul.

The band have a single being released on the 18th January. Limited Edition 7″ and download of When O When/Seasick Mutiny. A very exciting band indeed, who I hope very soon will get snapped up by an independent label.

They are playing the following shows in the near future…

12th Dec – Carnivale in Whitechapel, London

15th Dec – Legion in Old Street, London

10th Jan – Micca Club, Rome

An instrumental power trio up next, London/Essex based ‘Moms House Dads House’, not only have an interesting name but also their music isn’t that bad either.

I had the pleasure of listening to some tracks that these guys had recorded only a couple of weeks ago. Even though they were pre-mixed, you could tell they concentrate on getting a complex but accessible sound. A joyous blend of Muse-style heavy bass lines infused with Mars Volta influenced guitar work. The band have worked with vocalists in the past, but a decision to become an instrumental band seems to have pushed a creative edge in them. With tracks that have a math-rock style melody and a groove throughout that actually makes you want to dance!

The band were recently in the studio and I am assured will get their new tracks up soon on their myspace page. Check the guys out though on the site http://myspace.com/momshousedadshouse

Their next show is on the 30th Jan at The Good Ship in London. With a sound that’s like ‘a stack of VHS tapes crashing into a fire truck’, whats not to be missed!
