Supergroups: Make Room For Jimmy Page & Co

page_old

According to recording engineer Kevin Shirley another fabulous supergroup might be in the making.  Imagine guitar slingers Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith hitting the stages as the newest music super hero formation.

Shirley writes in his blog that Page and Clapton joined Perry and Whitford in a recording studio and that Page had been working with “many others” as well.

Shirley dropped a bomb when he hinted at a ‘supergroup project,’ writing that come January he would be “producing what has the promise to be one of the most exciting ‘supergroups’ to come around in a long time.

“But theory is just that until we see how the dynamics play out in the studio between these superb musicians. And of course the songs will make the real difference.”

Shirley, who has never worked with Clapton, has manned the sound console faders and  knobs for Jimmy Page and Aerosmith in the past.

Shirley also posted that he will soon begin remixing “one of Classic Rock’s seriously classic albums.” Could he perhaps be referring to Eric Clapton’s Layla a And Other Assorted Love Songs (which marks its 40th anniversary next year)?
