4 Beatles Wax figures, which were on display at an Indian Shopping Mall to promote tourism for the city of Liverpool, started melting in New Dehli’s intense heat it’s reported.
The high temperatures at the exhibit softened the wax in John Lennon’s feet and began to distort the features of fellow band members Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison according to India’s Mail Today newspaper.
The figures, which are insured for £100,000, were taken to India by Liverpool museum The Beatles Story and are on display at a shopping mall in south Delhi where the original drummer Pete Best also performed to the crowds.
“It was great performing here, the crowd was very nice and they were really into the music and they wanted more,” Best told news channel NDTV.
“I basically played numbers from the 60s and 70s because I knew that’s what my audience will look for and I hope they were not disappointed,” added the 67-year-old who was born in Chennai (formerly Madras).
Best was replaced by Ringo Starr in 1962, shortly before the band became legends.
Despite all the problems the exhibits bosses are shrugging off the meltdown , so to say.
“The crowds are all over us. The excitement is unbelievable,” said Jerry Goldman, managing director of The Beatles Story.
“The heat has taken its toll on the statues. Delhi is very hot at this time of year and then there were some very hot spotlights. We got the balance right in the end but not without things getting just a bit soft,” said one organiser.
The only other time the “Wax Fab Four” left The Beatles Story museum compounds was to recreate the iconic picture of the quartet leaning on the balcony of the town hall in Liverpool.
