Paolo Nutini: US Tour Was a Let Down

Soulful Scottish singer songwriter Paolo Nutini was in a slightly sombre mood after returning from his recent US tour.

His album “Sunny Side Up” hit No1 in the UK this June so the self admitting perfectionist felt let down by the reaction he received Stateside.

He said: “It’s not been massive. It’s been steady. It’s not always easy.

“The tour has not been on the back of some massive record label campaign.”

Nutini added: “The label seem a lot more hesitant to put everything behind this as opposed to the last one. The recession perhaps has given them the hesitation.

“The less we spend, the less we owe. But on the other extent the less exposure you have the more difficult it makes getting that hit that fulfils everybody’s expectations.

“It’s more had to be through doing lots of gigs and hope that people start telling their friends.”

Paulo however is looking forward to the release of his new single “Pencil Full of Lead” in the UK .

He said: “The UK has been great.

“It was great to go to No.1 with the album.

“I’m glad Pencil Full Of Lead is getting released as a single as I originally wanted it to be the first song out.

“It’s a great fun song to sing.”

Paolo’s album “Sunny Side Up is out now and “Pencil Full Of Lead” is out on November 2.

While talking to The Sun he also took a swipe at stars wasting their time updating their Twitter accounts rather than puttling all their efforts into their work.

Musicians Lilly Allen, Katy Perry and Oasis front man Liam Gallagher are all avid users of the social networking tool.

Paulo says he doesn’t get the obsession with telling fans his every move and adds : “I don’t really get it. I do have an account but it’s not always me updating it.

“Why would I like to be just writing random sentences all say?

“I don’t think: ‘Oooh I am going to tell everyone I know that I just woke up.’

“I don’t care if the fans know that because I’d rather they know I’m concentrating on my music.

“Plus I don’t have the time.”
