Its not enough that I give you two great bands that deserve your love and attention, but this week both Lost Knives & Egyptian Hip Hop hail from the great city of Manchester. I will start off by giving you a band who not only breaks convention but seems to have created their own genre called Doss Pop.
Egyptian Hip Hop are four guys who effortlessly create interesting blippy nuggets of pop genius. Think Good Shoes with a hint of Talking Heads and your just that little bit closer to how wonderful this band is. They seem to have created this amalgamation of pop loving guitar hooks with dark and gloomy 8bit casio beats. They do this so well and at times they sound like they don’t give a shit! But that’s no criticism, its an indication of how so effortlessly this band achieve ahead of their time tunes.
The band only have two tracks on their myspace page one of which, ‘Rad Pitt’, is one that I know plenty of people have been talking about. It definitely sums up everything I said about this gang of lovable misfits. Currently unsigned, but I am told that wont be for long, Egyptian Hip Hop sum up a generation of musicians that are able to, without effort, create boundary pushing music. If you want to know what direction bands are going to take in 2010, you only need to follow one band and they are Egyptian Hip Hop!
And now we come to a very recent discovery for me, and when I mean recent I mean literally half an hour ago! I cant begin to tell you how instant this band is. I took one listen to Lost Knives and it felt like an epiphany erupting right in front of me.
What would it be like if all you wanted in life was a moment in music that made you thankful for your ears! Well listening to some of the tracks from Lost Knives that is almost a reality. Big sounding guitar/synth magic given to you on a bed of crashing drums that just make your feet feel like jittering wrecks. Why these guys are unsigned is beyond me, you take one listen to ‘Cold Morning’ or ‘Left Alone’ and you feel the sudden impact this band had on me. I love that feeling of instant admiration for a band that you have only known for a very short time. Its a sign of something special and that’s definitely what Lost Knives are.
Its doom/indie new wave that will not only make you want to do a running jump onto the dance floor, but will make you wonder where this band have been all your life.
Can I now take a minute to mention a band that was mentioned in the first Live4ever Presents… Chapter24 have recently been getting some great press and fully deserve it. Check the band out http://www.myspace.com/chapter24 and they are playing live on these dates…
