The ‘Rev’ Takes On NME in Twitter Debate

'The Rev' Jon McClure

Jon McClure, better know as The Reverend, lead singer of Reverend And The Makers, tell us tonight “All their journos are white…., hopefully they may put Dizzee Rascal on the front cover under new editor”

The Rev’s views come from his twitter page only a couple of hours ago. Jon has had a very tense and rollercoaster ride of a relationship with the NME and more so with its Ex-Editor Conor McNicholas. Jon went on a rant tonight about how he felt the NME has been “downgraded to a fuckin spite rag under connor mchnicolas ” and says “quit being so fucking spiteful and londoncentric cos ppl hate u nme”

If you follow @JonMcClure on Twitter you know he is a very strong and confident individual. Starting up his own debate platform with Instigate Debate, McClure is a political force for the younger generation. His views sometimes do come under fire by the NME and Jon seems like he has had enough. He continues by tweeting…

do a you tube search ‘connor mchnicolas instigate debate’ he admits they r all white”

What McClure is implying here I would not like to comment on but I think its quite clear in a tweet he sends to James Endeacott, Label Boss of 1965 Records.

@jamesendeacott dizee is a black man. all their journos r white james. i said it in a newspaper and connor emailed saying he’d ruin me 4it”

The Rev continues his rant on twitter with comments towards the new editor Krissi Murison.

new editor krissi murison i believe to be a nice person. hopefully she’ll employ some black ppl and put dizzee on the cover finally”

McClure finishes off his rant with a final closing tweet regarding what he aims to achieve.

fuck this ive enuf things to bury em. ill just publish in a newspaper. unless they have some kind of turnaround next week”

Some strong opinions there from The Rev, but do they stand up? Does he have a point? Or is just a rant from a musician who has been burnt so many times by the music mag that initially gave him his platform?
