The Futureheads have confirmed they will return with a new album soon, and have described the new record as ‘complicated’.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, guitarist Ross Millard said: “We’ve been putting the finishing touches to the album and it’s ready to go right now. We’re really excited about this stuff, we’ve spent a lot of time making this record and in fact we’ve made a lot of it in the North East for the first time. It feels like we’ve been able to concentrate on things.”

The Futureheads found immediate success in 2004 with the release of their eponymous debut album. The single ‘Hounds of Love‘, a Kate Bush cover, hit the UK top 10 and was named as NME’s single of the year in 2005. However, after a disappointing reaction to follow up ‘News & Tributes‘ in 2006, they were dropped from their record label. They went on to release third album ‘This Is Not The World‘ through their own label in 2008, which enjoyed a positive response from fans and critics alike.

Speaking of direction the new album has taken, Millard said: “It’s forked off into two directions, our last album was very direct. With this record we didn’t want to do that again, the songs are a lot more complicated. I’ve had to go back to practicing the guitar to even play half these riffs.”

Millard also revealed the band plan to tour the UK before Christmas.
