U2 Break Wembley Attendance Record

It is being reported U2‘s gig at London’s Wembley Stadium last night (15th) was the highest attended concert in the venues history.

An estimated 88,000 people attended the gig, meaning the band broke the existing record of 83,000 – held by both Rod Stewart and the Foo Fighters – fairly comfortably. U2’s innovative ‘claw’ stage was a crucial factor in the record, as it allowed organisers more room towards the front of the stage.

Michael Jackson holds the record for the most appearances at Wembley, having played there fifteen times in his career. Next up are veteran rockers The Rolling Stones, who have played there twelve times, followed by Madonna who has made nine appearances – a tally which will be surpassed by U2 when they play their second gig tonight.
