Here’s our highlights in the world of UK music this week:

Albums




Simian Mobile Disco, who have recently been working with the Arctic Monkeys on their album ‘Humbug‘, release their own record ‘Temporary Pleasure’. For those of you with 50 quid burning a hole in your pocket, a 6-cd celebration of Woodstock – ‘Woodstock 40: 3 Days Of Peace and Music’ is released on Monday and for anyone who hasn’t bought one of the 86 others, a new Rolling Stones compilation ‘Jump Back – 71-93′ is out this week.


Simian Mobile Disco – Audacity of Huge

Singles

Arctic Monkeys give a physical release to new single ‘Crying Lightning’. Only available in vinyl, the single will be released in Oxfam outlets across the country, with proceeds going to the charity. Kasabian’s second release from ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum‘ – ‘Where Did All The Love Go?’ – is released this week and current flavour of the month Little Boots releases new single ‘Remedy’.

Gigs

The main event this week has to be V Festival. Featuring highlights such as Oasis, The Killers and Elbow, it kicks off on Saturday. This year’s Clumberfest event, which has Supergrass and Super Furry Animals appearing, begins in Nottingham on Saturday. Super! Upcoming indie types Little Comets are worth checking out, they play The Sugarmill in Stoke-on-Trent on Wednesday and The Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham on Sunday. US legends Pearl Jam perform at the MEN Arena, Manchester on Monday and the O2 Arena, London on Tuesday.

Television

Highlights of Kasabian’s gig at the Forum in London are shown on Channel 4 at 12.50 on Monday. The same channel presents an hour-long preview of the V Festival (Tue, 11.55pm). Jimi Hendrix’s legendary Isle Of Wight appearence is chronicled on Sky Arts on Monday (9.55pm). Sky Arts also gives an airing to 2004’s Stratpack Concert (Wed, 9.35pm), featuring the likes of The Rolling Stones and Queen and BBC 4 have an evening dedicated to legendary label Stiff Records on Friday, culminating with an interview with Blockheads frontman Ian Dury.

Radio

Absolute Radio’s coverage of V Festival begins with The Killers‘ headline slot on Friday (9pm). On Wednesday at 11pm their ‘Discover…’ series features Elbow, which includes songs from their four albums as well as live session tracks.
