Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed their new album was inspired by George Orwell’s classic novel ‘1984’.

Speaking on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, Bellamy said: “”When I read it this time I was much more taken with the love story. I read once in school about 15 years ago it was all about the politics. But when I read it this time I was much more taken with the love story in the book between Juliette and Winston.”

Ahead of the first play of their new single, ‘Uprising’, he also discussed his thoughts on the song: “In the early years I was confused about what my emotions were trying to express,” he said. “As I said, being in England or seeing what’s going on in England has defined it as being a lot more direct and a lot more down to earth. I think the first song sums up how a lot of people feel and it’s that we need change.”

Additionally, the band have also unveiled the artwork for the new album. The sleeve, which is another typically outlandish offering from the group, can be seen below.

Resistance’ is released on September 14th, and is preceded by new single ‘Uprising’ on September 7th.
