Dave Grohl and Josh Homme have announed the name of their new supergroup will be Them Crooked Vultures. The band, which also consists of legendary Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones, have been in Los Angeles recording an album and will play their first live date in Chicago on 9th August.

Both Homme and Grohl are two of the hardest working men in rock, often guesting on albums, touring extensively and producing. Grohl of course rose to fame with Nirvana, before having further success with Foo Fighters, and has also worked with bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Tenacious D and The Prodigy. He also played with Homme for Queens Of The Stone Age.

Homme has been equally prolific; as well as his principal band Queens Of The Stone Age, he has worked with artists including The Eagles Of Death Metal, PJ Harvey, Death From Above 1979 and recently co-produced the Arctic Monkeys new album ‘Humbug’.

The project was discussed by Dave Grohl as long ago as 2005. In an interview at the time with Mojo he said: “The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck.”While more recently Josh Homme’s wife, ex-Distillers singer Brody Dalle, said: “I’m not at liberty to talk about it, but I think it is pretty fucking amazing. Just beats and sounds like you’ve never heard before.”

UK dates are rumoured to be announced soon.
