U2’s 360 degree world tour reveals a rather embarrassing Carbon Footprint of grand proportions.
Bono start planting trees please , 20 118 to be exact. This is what’s needed to offset U2’s carbon emissions for the year. The carbon footprint created by the 44 mega concerts is equal to the 4 band members travelling from Earth to Mars in a passenger plane.
Helen Roberts who is an environmental consultant at CarbonFootprint.com spoke to the Quietus recently: “You also have to add the carbon emissions from the same number of concerts again next year. Just looking at the 44 concerts this year, the band will create enough carbon to fly all 90,000 people attending one of their Wembley concerts to Dublin”
If calculations are correct U2’s 360 Degree World tour will have a carbon footprint equivalent to that of 6500 average UK residents combined for an entire year
Perhaps Bono’s decision to register their companies off-shore in order to avoid Irish tax which impacts the countries ability to give to third world aid charities and Edges multi unit construction project in Malibu, CA raise new questions about the sincerity of the band’s “save the planet” position.
