Peter Doherty has revealed Babyshambles have begun working on a new album.

Speaking to French radio station Inter, he said: “”Even as we speak, at this very moment in London somewhere, Mr Michael Whitnall – my erstwhile guitarist and songwriting partner in Babyshambles – is getting the demos together for our new album. He’s got most of the tunes ready, I’ve just got to write the lyrics now.” Doherty also said he expects Stephen Street, who produced the band’s previous album, to be behind the desk for the new record. When asked if Street would be involved, Doherty simply said: “I think so, he’s a geezer.”

After leaving The Libertines in 2004, Doherty turned his attention to Babyshambles, which had started as a side-project following his initial problems with The Libertines in 2003. Towards the end of 2005, the band released their debut album, ‘Down In Albion‘ which entered the UK Top 10. After signing to Parlophone Records in 2006, a second album, ‘Shotter’s Nation‘, was released in 2007 and recieved a warm response from critics.

Doherty has also spoken about his recent arrests, which have come at a time when his much documented drug problems were reported to be under control. “I’ve kind of just come out of a bit of a car crash,” he said. “I got nicked in England, arrested again, and since then I’ve had to go to rehab. Since then, I’m clean, the last 11 days I’ve been clean for the first time in quite a long time.”
